HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 12, 2005 B-01 SMAGENDA ITEM B-01 CITY OF ILODI • COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TM AGENDA TITLE: Discussion and Appropriate Action Regarding the "Annual Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Volunteers Recognition Event" MEETING DATE: April 12, 2005 PREPARED BY: City Clerk RECOMMENDED ACTION: That Council discuss and take appropriate action regarding the "Annual Boards, Commissions, Committees, and Volunteer Recognition Event," which is typically held in August each year. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This item appears on the agenda at the request of Mayor Beckman, Y The City Clerk's Office has traditionally coordinated an annual event hosted by the Lodi City Council to extend its appreciation to the members of the community who volunteer their time and talents toward serving as a member of a Council -appointed board or commission. Over the years, with the incorporation of many additional volunteer groups in the community, this event has increased to a number now approaching 450 individuals. In addition to the boards and commissions members, the event now includes volunteers from the following groups and Council -appointed task forces: Note: Several City departments have separate annual recognition events to thank volunteer groups that assist them, which are signified in the list below by a check mark. • Animal Friends Connection • Animal Shelter Task Force • People Assisting Lodi Shelter✓ • Boosters of Boys and Girls Sports • Greenbelt Task Force • Friends of Lodi Lak6 • Friends of the Library,/ • Library Adult Literacy Services✓ • Library Foundation Board,/ • HSS Foundation**' • HSS Vacuum Buddies✓ • Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza Foundation • Lodi Arts Project Foundation✓ • Lodi Lake Docents-/ • Lodi Library Computer Learning Center/ • Lodi Sports Foundation • Police Chaplains • Police Partners✓ • Storm Drain Detectives✓ This item is being brought forward for discussion on whether to revert back to the original concept of recognizing only Council appointed members of boards, commissions, committees, and task forces (totaling 95 people), or to continue with the practice of including all volunteer groups (totaling 450 people). FISCAL IMPACT: Minimum cost if number of attendees and format of the event remain unchanged is $6,000. FUNDING AVAILABLE: NIA Susan J.
