AGENDA TITLE: Adopt resolution authorizing applicationfor grant funds to help operate the Senior
Information Referral Services Center at Hutchins Street Square for a four-year

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt resolution authorizing submission of proposalfrom Senior Center at
Hutchins Street Square, requesting a $15,000 (title III -E) grant for Local
Information and Assistance Services through funding from the Older
Americans Act distributed through the San Joaquin County Human
Services Agency.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Since 1986, the City of Lodi has committedto offer services and
programs to area seniors by providing a yearly operating and
maintenance budget for a Senior Information and Referral Center at
the Hutchins Street Square Community Center. For the first time,
funding for Informationand Assistance (outreach programs) has become available in San Joaquin
County through the Older Americans Act (Title 1M. If received, this $15,000 -per -year grant would help
to defray some of the costs associated with offering Senior Information Services and Programs at
Hutchins Street Square for the next four years.
FISCAL IMPACT: The City could receive up to $15,000 peryear for a period of four
years for outreach services providedto seniors in Northern San
Joaquin County. These funds have not been included as estimated
revenue in the Community Center budget for 2005-06.
FUNDING: This grant does not require matching cash funds.

A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING SUBMISSION OF
GRANT APPLICATION FROM SENIOR CENTER ATHUTCHINS STREET
SQUARE FOR LOCAL INFORMATIONAND ASSISTANCE SERVICES
THROUGH FUNDING FROM THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT DISTRIBUTED
THROUGH THE SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY HUMAN SERVECES AGENCY
WHEREAS, the City of Lodi has committed to offer services and programs to area
seniors by providing a yearly operating and maintenance budget for a Senior Information and
Referral Center at the Hutchins Street Square Community Center; and
WHEREAS, for the first time, funding for Information and Assistance (outreach
programs) has become available in San Joaquin County through the Older Americans Act (Title
Ilf-E); and
WHEREAS, if received, this $15,000 -per -year grant would help to defray some of the
costs associated with offering senior information services and programs at Hutchins Street
Square for the next four years; and
WHEREAS, staff recommends submitting an application for grant funds to help operate
the Senior Information Referral Services Center at Hutchins Street Square for a four-year
period (July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2009) under the Older Americans Act Fund, Title III -E (Local
Information and Assistance) through the San Joaquin County Human Services Agency.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby approve
submission of a grant application for a $15,000 per year (Title I II -E) proposal from the Senior
Center at Hutchins Street Square for Local Information and Assistance Services through
funding from the Older Americans Act distributed through the San Joaquin County Human
Services Agency.
