AGENDA TITLE: Proposed City Council Team Building Exercise
MEETING DATE:
PREPARED BY:
February 15,2005
City Manager
RECOMMENDEDACTION: Confirm the date and the approach to a City Council team building
exercise.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On February 1, 2005, at the Council's Shirtsleeve session, Mayor
Pro Tempore Hitchcock restated her interest in the City Council
participating in a team building session. Mayor John Beckman
indicated that Pastor Dale Edwards had offered and was available to facilitate such an exercise.
Subsequently, staff contacted Pastor Edwards to confirm his availability and to discuss his approach to
a team building event.
Pastor Edwards envisions that the team building will be fun and interactive with the focus on five
questions: 1) What makes for a great team? 2) How do we work within a team? 3) What single event in
my past changed my life permanently for the better or worse? 4) What do I need to know about myself
within the team? 5) What will this require of me? The outline for Pastor Edwards'session is attached.
The Team Building session as proposed would occur Saturday, March 5, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00
p.m. at the Carnegie Forum. Pursuant to the California Government Code, the team building session
must be an open noticed Special Meeting. The City Clerk has confirmed that all Council Members are
available for this date and time. It is assumed that the three Council appointees, City Manager, City
Attorney, and City Clerk, will participate.
The Council could consider alternative approaches; however, it is assumed that any other facilitator
would charge for his/her services.
FUNDING: No cost if the gratis service of Pastor Edwards is accepted.
