CITY OF Low
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TM
AGENDA TITLE: Accept donation of three Japanese lanternsfor Lodi Lakefrom Hugo and Earlene
Wiessner
MEETING DATE: February 2,2005
PREPARED BY Park and Recreation Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accepts a donation of three Japanese lanterns
from Hugo and EarleneWiessner of Woodbridge.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Several years ago the Friends of Lodi Lake constructed a Japanese
Garden on the north side of Lodi Lake Park. One of the many nice
features within the garden was two Japanese lanterns.
Unfortunately, one of the lanternswas recently stolen. A letter to
the editorwas written in the local newspaperasking for information and suggested that the lantern be
returned. A few days following the article, Mrs. Wiessner contacted me asking if we would be interested
in a donation of three Japanese lanternsfor possible use at the Lodi Lake Japanese Garden.
Friends of Lodi Lake member Donna Phillips and I visited the Wiessner's residence to evaluate the
prospective donation. We recommend that the City Council accept the Wiessner's donation of three
Japanese lanterns.
