MEETING DATE: June 18,2003
PREPARED E3Y_ Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION. That tine City Council approve the specifications for the above project and
authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND iNFQRMATi0N-. This project consists of providing the necessary equipment for the Lodi
Unified Schooi District's compressed natural gas (CNF)fueling station,
located at the Disti-ict's bus maintenance facility, 820 South Ciuff Avenue.
The City of Lodi sponsored a Lodi Unified School District (LUSD) Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program
(CMAQ) grant application to the San Joaquin County Council of Governments for the design and construction of a
CNG Station, and the purchase of fourteen CNG buses. The grant was awarded to the City of Lodi on behalf of
LUSD. The City is responsible for project management on this project, which has several project
c ompon entsi phases. The purchase and delivery of the buses is now complete, and tine Council previously
approved the professional services contract fordesign and construction management services,
1 -he City is working in cooperation with LUSD on these CNG projects to encourage the use of CNG as an
alternative fue! source, and to provide a "back up" fueling site shouid the City's CNG fueling facility be out of service
for any reason
s"ne, purchase of this GN G equipment for the District's on-site CNG fueling station is the next step in the process.
Ridding the equipment separately is the most cost-effective and efficient way to build the CNG station, as it reduces
the cost of the equipment, since the manufacturers provide it_ The pians and specifications for the installation of
th5e equipment will follow soon as a stand-alone project.
The specifications are on fiie in the Public Works Department.
FUNDING: The money for this project wiii be coming from the San Joaquin County Council of Governments
2000 Federai Transportation Improvement Program (FTIP) Amendment, CMAQ funds. A request
for appropriation of funds will be made at cointract award.
