HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - June 18, 2003 D-01aCiTy oF LODI AGENDA TITLE Presentation of the Community Improvement Award MEETING DATE June 18, 2003 PREPARED BY: Community Development Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Mayor present a Community Improvement Award to Paul& Geraldine Lerma, the owners of the property at 540 1/2 E. Elm Street, and to Shelly Nolan from Harvest Property Management, for their action in the renovation of that residential property, BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In August of 2002, this residential alley property was the subject of a code enforcement action which found 3 adults and 4 children living in extremely substandard living conditions. Broken windows. a red -tagged and inoperable wall heater, deteriorated and exposed electricalm ring and a myriad of other unsafe and uninhabitable conditions led to the posting of a Notice to Vacate on the property. Once those tenants were removed from the property, the dwelling remained vacant and could not be reoccupied until substantial repairs were made. Shortly after the posting and vacation of the premises, the property was sold to Paul and Geraldine Lerma. who embarked on a major rehabilitation project. Community Improvement Division Staff were impressed not on.ly with the quality of the work done during the rehabilitation, but also the cooperation and diligenceexhiWted by W and Mrs, Lerma and by Shelly Nolan at Harvest Property Management, and therefore nominated them for the Community Improvement Award. After a review by the Eastside Improvement Committee, it was agreed that this is an appropriate situation to recognize both the r%r oner+%� ryAjn"m nnA t nrnnQrhi m;4nAnpr For their dedication and contributions to the improvement of the Eastside community.
