Accept Improvements under the Contract for the Lower Sacramento Road Widening Project, Kettleman Lane to Turner Road MEETING DATE: June 4, 2003 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION That the City Council accept the improvements under the "Lower Sacramento Road Widening Project, Kettleman Lane to Turner Road" contract. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project was awarded to George Reed, Inc., of Lodi, on January 4, 2001, in the amount of $5,474,479.00. The contract has been completed in substantial conformance with the plans and specifications approved by the City Council. The contract completion date was November 12, 2002, and the actual completion date was November 16, 2002. After the project was substantially completed, the City had George Reed, Inc., install landscaping along the frontage of several parcels. This landscape work has now been completed. The final contract price was $5,985,662.96. T he difference between the contract amount and the final contract price is mainly due to three contract change orders which addressed the additional work needed to correct unstable subgrade areas, revisions to the median imriation services, additional work around the bus pads, the removal of the median bark and replacement with less fammable material, additional landscaping work, and the installation of additional utilities at Vine Street and at Taylor Road. The project was also suspended from December 2001 until July 2002 so that weather conditions Would be suitable for the placement of the final lift of rubberized asphalt concrete. The contract change orders also addressed the additional costs because work was stopped. These costs included raising utility frames and covers to grade and ttte installation of temporary pavement markings and stripings. The budoeted fund amount includes costs for professional service fees that included design and contract administration assistance, construction testing and sound studies.
