CITY OF LODI
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Amending Traffic Resolution 97-148 Approving Conversion of
Yield Signs to Stop Signs on Fairmont Avenue at Locust Street
MEETING DATE: May 7, 2003
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution amending Traffic Resolution
97-148 by approving the conversion from yield signs to stop signs on
Fairmont Avenue at Locust Street, as shown on Exhibit A.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The intersection of Fairmont Avenue and Locust Street has been
studied based on citizen concerns received and accidents occurring
at the intersection.
The Public Works Department's guideline related to traffic controls at four -legged minor street
intersections is to control the street with less traffic using either yield or stop signs. Where yield signs
exist, consideration should be made to converting them to stop signs when there are four or more
accidents in a four-year period correctable by the conversion to stop signs. Available accident records
for the cast three -plus years indicate there have been five correctable accidents at this intersection.
Based on these factors, we recommend City Council approve staff's recommendation to convert the
yield signs to stop signs at this intersection.
