HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - May 7, 2003 D-02d%D1 CITY OF L" COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Air Quality Improvement Day Proclamation MEETING DATEm May 7,2003 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That Council present a proclamation proclaiming Wednesday, May 21, 2003, as Air Quality Improvement Day in the City of Lodi, BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The San Joaquin Talley is currently in non -attainment for air quality. The air quality in the Valley has continued to degrade over the past ten years and has been classified as "Severe" by the U. Environmental Protection Agency. May is "Clean Air Month" in California, Tlne City of Lodi has embraced alternative fuel technology and has added alternatively -fueled vehicles to the City deet, Twenty of the twenty-five vehicles in the City's Transit Fleet (80%) are alternatively fueled, utilizing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), The Public Works Department, as well as Electric Utility, Hutchins Street Square, Parks and Recreation, Police, and Finance Departments, have purchased and/or !eased either CNG or electric vehicles. The City of Lodi is working cooperatively with the Lodi Unified School District to add CNG -powered buses to their bus fleet, as well as partnering with them on other CNG projects, On May 21, 2003; the City of Lodi will officially open its Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Station at the Municipal Service Center, FUNDING: None required, Prima, Jr.Richard C.
