BACKGROUND EN FOR ATION: The Lodi Tire Department Hazardous Materials Team responds with the I-odi Police Department to clandestine drug labs to provide support and decontainination services. The Hazardous Materials "T Cain has used gas detectors sine: its inception. The technology and reliability of detectors has increased considerably allowing for increased accuracy, hence safer operations. Recently, during a ,point police: and firs department operation, the: current detector did not operate properly and field repairs were unable to be effec;tivea A second detector had to be brought in, causing a delay in this operation, The current monitor is not able to be properly calibrated rendering it useless:. Safety of personnel and the public is of paramount importance and by purchasing a new onitorldotector, calibrating gasses, and the appropriate, sensors the safe operation at these incidents will be increased, Estimated cast for detector and calibrating gasses 2,500.00 (tax included). Both the Folies Chief and Fire Chief agree this purchase is necessary for both departments and. the Police Chief agrees purchase of this detector is an appropriate use of Asset Seizure Funds. WHEREAS, the Lodi Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team responds with the Lodi Police Department to clandestine drug labs to provide support and decontamination services; and WHEREAS, the Hazardous Materials Team has utilized gas detectors since its inception, and the technology and reliability of detectors has increased considerably allowing for increased accuracy and safer operations; and WHEREAS, recently on a joint police and fire operation, the current detector did not operate properly and a second detector had to be brought in, causing a delay in the operation; and WHEREAS, safety of personnel and the public is of paramount importance; therefore, staff recommends the purchase of a new monitor/detector in the approximate amount of $29500.00 using Asset Seizure Funds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby approve the purchase of Hazardous Materials Gas Detector for Fire Department Hazardous Materials "earn utilizing $2,500.00 from Asset Seizure funds.
