AGENDA TITLE, Adopt resolution authorizing the purchase of tab safety equipment and yearly
physicals for five investigators (Asset Seizure funds $3,520) (PD)
DATE: February 19, 2002
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of lab safety
equipment and yearly physicals for five investigators of the Lodi Police Department.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Currently, six LPD officers are trained to investigate cases
involving clandestine laboratories. (Two of the officers are assigned to Metro).
They need to be properly equipped in order deal with these extremely
hazardous situations. In addition they need a yearly physical examination.
The Special Investigations Unit investigates 8-10 clandestine laboratories a year. These lab sites contain toxic
chemicals and hazardous materials. in order to comply with OSHA requirements and, more importantly, keep the
officers as safe as possible, they need the following equipment:

To comply with State OSHA mandates, each officer must have a physical annually, conducted at UCD Medical .
Center Occupational Health Services to determine fitness for respirator use. This specialized physical is 00tside of
what would normally be, covered by City health care providers. The projected cost for each physical is $300,00 With
Cracnet (Metro) covering the cost for one.
Total cost for physicals per year: $1,500.00
FUNDING: $3,520.00 from Asset Seizure funds

RESOLUTION OF THE LORI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING USE
OF ASSET SEIZURE FUNDS TO PURCHASE LAB SAFETY
EQUIPMENT AND YEARLY PHYSICALS FOR FIVE INVESTIGATORS
WHEREAS, the Special Investigations Unit made up of six Lodi Police Department officers are
trained to investigate cases. involving clandestine laboratories; and
WHEREAS, These officers need to be properly equipped in order to deal with these extremely
hazardous situations: and
WHEREAS, this Unit Investigates 6 to 10 clandestine laboratories per year that contain toxic
chemicals and hazardous materials', and
WHEREAS, the safety equipment listed below will provide for a higher level of safety for the
Special Investigations Unit, as well as complying with OSHA requirements:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE 11' RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby approve the
purchase of lab safety equipment and yearly physicals for five investigators of the Lodi Police Department
utilizing $3,520.00 from, the Asset Seizure Funds.
