HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 5, 2003 E-04kATY o' LOD COtJNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Approving Plans and Speciftations and Authorizing Advertisement for Bids for Traffic Signal and Street Lighting Improvements at Century Boulevard and Ham Lane and Authorizing the City Manager to Award the Contract and Appropriate Funds ($185,000) MEETING DATE: Febwary 5, 2003 PREPARED BY: Pubflc Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTIONThat the City Council adopt a resolution approving the plans and specific ation s for the above project, authorizing advertising for bids, and authorizing the City Manager to award the contract and appropriate funds, BACKGROUND !NFORMATION: The project includes installing a traffic signal and street fighting at the Century Boulevard and Ham Lane intersection. On July 19, 2000, City Council approved the City's Signal Priority Study. This intersection is one of the fourteen intersections on the Signal Priority Study List. The list and current status of each intersection is shown on Exhibit A. (Note that the score ranking is based on a previously -approved, arbitrary method and is for comparison purposes only. used on funding opportunities, adjacent development and Council preference, actual construction sequence may change.) At its February 7, 2001, meeting, Council authorized the City Manager to execute a professional services agreement with Y & C Transportation Consultants, inc,, to design this project, In 2001, the plans and specifications for the traffic signal design were essentially ready for Council's approval, however, funding was not available at that time. The specifications require that construction work be performed to minimize the disruption to high school pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The contractor will be required to perform sidewalk. work during off-peak hours (when students are not going to and from school) and some roadway work during the high school's summer break. Staff's request is for City Council to authorize the City Manager to award the project up to $185,000. used on actual bids, if additional funds are needed, this item will be brought back to City Council for approval to award and appropriate funds. The plans and specifications are on file in the Public Works Department. FUNDING: The project estimate is $185,000 and includes project construction and contingency costs. The funding source is Transportation Development Art funds (50%) and Local Streets Impact Fees (50%). Planned Bid Opening Date: February 26, 2003 Funding Available: Pre.pared by Piula J. Cherokee Lane and Elm Street 97 For future budget RESOLUTION TION O. 2003-21 WHEREAS, this project includes installing a traffic signal and street lighting at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Ham Lame, and WHEREAS, on July 19, 2000, the City Council approved the City's Signal Priority Study, which included this intersection as one of fourteen intersections on the Signal Priority Study List, and WHEREAS, at its February 7, 2001, meeting, the City Council authorized the 'City.
