HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - January 15, 2003 I-01AGENDA,rITLE: Adopt Resolution Accepting Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza Donation of Improvements and Receive Quarterly Payment RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt Resolution Accepting Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza Donation of Improvements and Receive Quarterly Payment 3ACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Lodi Area Veterans Plaza Foundation would like to donate the improvements placed on City property now known as the Lo -C Area All Veterzr The Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza began construction on November 11, 2001, Construction of the Plaza was complete May 22, 2002. The Foundation received a $450,000.00 loan from the City of Lodi to construct the Plaza. The Foundation has committed to making quarterly payments of $10,000,00 back to the City until the loan is repaid. The Plaza, which is adjacent to Lodi City Hall, is located in a high visibility area and is comprised of several facets including a 21.5 foot stainless-steel obelisk, a seven -foot granite sphere, an eternal flame and a pool outlined by blue cobalt the all dramatically under lit, The obelisk honors courage; the sphere represents unity and global service; the flame represents valor and sacrifice; and the water represents healing. The Plaza is a lasting tribute to all Veterans, past, present and future representing all branches of the United States military, In addition, the Foundation would like to present the City with their third installment in the amount of $10,000.00 toward the $450,000.00 loan to the foundation. All funds have been the result of fund development by the Foundation, Funding: None mmsz�= A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTING THE LODI AREA ALL VETERANS PLAZA DONATION OF IMPROVEMENTS, AND FURTHER ACCEPTING QUARTERLY PAYMENT WHEREAS, construction of the Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza began on November 11, 2001, and was completed on May 22, 2002; and WHEREAS, the Plaza, which is adjacent to Lodi City Hall, is comprised of several facets including a 21.5 foot stainless-steel obelisk, a seven -foot granite sphere, an eternal flame, and a pool outlined by blue cobalt Me all dramatically under lit; and wallffrulAm I WHEREAS, the Plaza is a lasting tribute to all Veterans, past, present, and future, representing all branches of the United States military; and WHEREAS, utilizing a $450,000.00 loan from the City of Lodi, the Lodi Area Veterans Plaza Foundation has committed to making $10,000.00 quarterly payments to the City until the loan is repaid; and WHEREAS, the Foundation desires to donate all of the improvements to the City of Lodi, and further transmits its third insfal)rnent on the loan. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council does hereby accept the Lodi Area All Veterans Plaza donation of improvements in their entirety; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby accepts the third installment on the above-mentioned loan in the amount of $10,000.00.
