COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE-. Adopt Resolution Rescinding Resolution 82-107, which Currently Closes a Portion
of Pleasant Avenue Between Chestnut Street and Tokay Street at Needham School
During School Hours
MEETING DATE: October 1, 2003
PREPARED BYE Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION', That the City Council adopt a resolution rescinding Resolution 82-107,
which currently closes a portion of Pleasant Avenue between
Chestnut Street and Tokay Street at Needham School during school
hours,
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In 1982, based on a request from Lodi Unified School District,
City Council adopted Resolution 82-107 (Exhibit A) closing the
portion of Pleasant Avenue from Chestnut Street to Tokay Street
during school hours. School personnel were to place signs for the
closure periods.
Since that time, Needham School has closed, and the site is now occupied by Heritage Intermediate
School for grades 4 through 6. The buildings across the street on the west side of Pleasant Avenue are
occupied by Tiny -Tots, Lodi High ROP students, and Adult Special Education. These uses require
vehicles to access the buildings and parking lots from Pleasant Avenue.
Staff contacted Heritage Intermediate School Administration, and they concur that closing the street during
school hours is no longer feasible because of the changes that have occurred at the school site. Based on
these factors, we recommend that City Council adopt a resolution rescinding Resolution 82-107.
