AGENDA TITLE: Adopt a resolution awarding the 2003-2005 supply contract for Electric
Utility underground rubber products to the low bidder, Wesco
Distribution of San Leandro, in an estimated two-year total amount of
$48,502,58. (UD)
MEETING DATE: August 20, 2003
PREPARED BY; Electric Utility Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION- That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the 2003-2005
supply contract for certain electric utility underground rubber products
to the low bidder, Wesco Distrbution of San Leandro, in an estimated
two-year total amount of $48,502.58.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION, The Electric Utility Department and Finance Department's Purchasing
Division earlier this year identified a number of standard high-volume
or long -leadtime items routinely used in overhead and underground
construction and upgrade projects.
On July 2, 2003; the City Council adopted Resolution 2003-109 to award a 2 -year supply contract for 30 items
in five categories, and to reject bids in a sixth category, underground rubber products. Staff redefined the
product list for Category 6, and on July 30, 2003, opened the following bids:
Wesco Distribution, San Leandro $48,502.58
Southwest Power, Benicia $49,187.60
Western States Electric, Portland, OR $54,291.34
(The bid totals are based on an estimated two-year usage of five different underground rubber items used by
the Electric Utility Department).
Establishing a supply contract helps assure a guaranteed source for these items without having to maintain a
large inventory at the IVISC warehouse. This means the City will have fewer dollars committed to inventory,
yet have the components available to schedule and carry out Electric Utility construction or maintenance
projects when needed,
