HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - August 20, 2003 E-04AGENDA TITLE: Approve Plans and Specifications and Authorize Advertisement forBidatnCo e City of Lodi - Lodi Unified School District (LUSID) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fueling Facility at $20 South Cluff Avenue and Adopt Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Agreement with Lodi Unified School District MEETING DATE: August20,2003 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications for the above project, authorize advertising for bids, and adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling agreement with Lodi Unified School I Nstrict,' BACKGROUND tNFORMATiON. This project is a joint effort between the City of Lodi and the Lodi Un�fied School D�strict (LUSD). The City of Lodi and LUSD are overseeing the project design and construction. Funding for the facility was awarded from the San Joaquin Council of Governments and the Sari Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District, The facility will serve the School District's CNG school buses. Additionally, the site will serve as aback -up fueling facility for the City of Lodi and,in particular, the Transit Beet. The LUSD CNG station is expected to be completed byMarch 20O4. The City of Lodi and the Lodi Unified School District (LUSID) have been working together on several CNG projects, in continuing efforts to introduce alternatively -fueled vehicles into both fleets and reduce air pollution in Lodi and San Joaquin County. The School District now has fifteen CNG -powered buses. The City of Lodi recently c ompleted m.�r own CNG fueling faciiity at the Municipal Service Center (MSC) and want to provide CNG fuel to LUSD. Until their fueling station is operational. Additionally, the desire is for each station to act as a back up to the other, However, until the LUSD fueling station is complete, it is requested that the district be allowed to fuel their fifteen school buses at our MSG site. The district will reimburse the City for fuel it consumes at the MSC on a monthly basis. The same arrangement will be made for the City at the LUSD site once complete. Dixon Flynn --~[hyx4anagor RESOLUTION NO. 2003-145 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS FUELING AGREEMENT WITH LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lodi City Council does hereby authorize and direct the City Manager to execute a Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Agreement with the Lodi Unified School District on behalf of the City of Lodi for the reciprocal use of fueling stations by Lodi Unified School District and the City.
