HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - December 18, 2002 E-05AGENDA TITLE: Approve Plans and Specifications and Authorize Advertisement for Bids for
Stockton Street Parkway Landscape Project from Tokay Street to Alley North of
Locust Street, and Authorize the City Manager to Award Contract
MEETING DATE: December 18, 2002
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications for the above
project and authorize advertisement for bids, and authorize award of contract
by the City Manager.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Reconstruction of this section of Stockton Street began in the 2001
and was completed in early 2002. Part of the project was to install
parkways along Stockton Street where they did not exist to
accommodate future landscaping.
This landscape project is a collaborative effort with the Planning Division and input from local residents and
businesses. The addition of landscaping along this portion of Stockton Street will improve the appearance of
the neighborhood. The trees will give the benefit of needed shade in the summer and encourage pedestrian
travel in the area. J. D. Hightower, City Planner, has contacted local residents and business owners
informing them that the property owners will be responsible to irrigate the trees and ground cover. The City
will maintain the trees.
As part of this project, two unused bus shelters on Walnut Street between School Street and
Sacramento Street will be relocated onto this section of Stockton Street. Since funding is limited for the
landscape project, the bus shelter relocation will be bid as an alternate bid for this project.
This project consists of installing approximately 11,000 square feet of landscape, 120 various street trees,
and other miscellaneous and related work, all as shown on the plans and specifications for "Stockton Street
Parkway Landscape Project, Tokay Street to Alley North of Locust Street".
The plans and specifications are on file in the Public Works Department.
FUNDING: The money for this project is from Block Grant Funds (CDBG).
Project Estimate: $120,000
