MEETING DATE: October 6, 1993 PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That Mayor Phil Pennino present the key to Hale Park to the Eastside Improvement Committee as ti,e first group to officially adopt a park. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Attached is the first ag-cement to be put in place as part of our new Ack3pt-A-Park Program. The Eastsidc ImprovementCommittee has agreed to work to improve and maintain Hale Park. They will check the park on a regular basis and pick up debris and litter. They will also be checking for damage to the park. As part of this program, they also will be provided with paint and brushes to paint over any graffiti that should appear. They will be working toward putting band concerts in the park. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City Council approved $5,000 on April 21, 1993 from the Federal government under the CDBG Program for the 93-94 Gang Alternative Project (GAP). The funding was intended to be used for administrative assistance, i.e., printing costs, mailing costs, etc. Staff is recommending approval of the following: Recommendation: That the scope of activities to be funded with the $5,000 allocation be amended to include proficiency testing costs, transportation costs, workshop speaker fees, and other educational resources for low to moderate income at -risk youth.
