CITY OF LODE
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Plans and Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Public Safety
Building Air -Conditioner Replacement
MEETING DATE: September 1, 1993
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDEDat the City Council approve the plans and specifications for
the above project and authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: At the August 18, 1993 City Council Meeting, the Council
was made aware that the existing Public Safety Building
air -conditioner had failed and could not be repaired. The
two chiller units, which serve the first and second floors,
need to be replaced. These units are located in the basement underneath the jail.
The City Council authorized the firm of Wenell Mattheis Bowe to develop plans and
specifications for a replacement chiller.
The project consists of replacing the two 25 -year old chillers with one larc,e
reciprocating chiller to be located at ground level. There are two smaller 25 -year
old air-conditioning units in the basement which serve only the basement. According
to the mechanical engineer, these two units, due to their age and confiouration, may
fail at any time. The proposed new chiller will be sized to accommodate the
basement cooling requirements when these other older units fail. The new unit will
be located next to the chiller that serves the City Hall and Carnegie Forum. Also
included in the scope of work will be the removal of the existing units, plumbing
and electrical hookup, site preparation, and other incidental and related work.
