PETERSON rxrcted P&OW City Manager a 1 East Elm St. Lodi, CA 95240 August 25, 1993 Mayor Phillip Pinnino 221 West Pine St:" Lodi, CA 95240 Dear Mayor Pinnino, I am writing this letter to submit my resignation as a board member of the Gang Alternative Project. I have tried to act as a board member and to support the needs of the gang members but have found this to be a great conflict. I find it very hard to support someone who chooses to ignore our efforts, but instead chooses to continue with their choice of vandalism and terroristic activities of our whole neighborhood. I submit my resignation with only one regret and that is their are some gang members who may benefit in the long run but until they are ready to accept the consequences for the actions they are taking, we have a real problem. When I see the terror in the eyes of the innocent children, I have to help them and relinquish my board position and devote more time to my neighborhood. Mayor Pennino, you know me and I am not a quitter. I feel I must devote more time to helping my neighborhood families recapture their neighborhood once again and make them the quiet, safe, and clean neighborhoods they once were. This will not be an easy task but we feel with the fantastic help we have been getting from both your staft and the excellant cooperation of Chief Hansen's people, we feel we have a good chance. It has been great being part of the community effort on behalf of the Gang Alternative Project, but I must help my neighborhood. I really feel they need me and the gang members are more concerned with their own selfish actions and have no regards for end result of their actions. S✓iinncerely, U w Virginia L. Lahr
