BACKGROUND INFORMATION: We appeared on August 4, 1993, with a schedule of recommended fees and charges for adult sports; it was suggested by the Council that we hold this action over for two weeks, to tonight's meeting, to take formal action. Please refer to last meeting's materials (August 4, 1993) as Exhibits (A) Council Communication, (B) Commission Action, and (C) Fee and Charges Schedule. FUNDING: General Fund. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: At its regular meeting of Tuesday, August 3, 1993 the Parks and Recreation Commission will consider an amended fee schedule for the City's adult sports programs. Mike Reese, Recreation Supervisor, will be in attendance to present the rec.%x mendation cf the Recreation Division staff and Bob Johnson, Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, will be present with comments from the Commission. It is anticipated that representatives of the City's Adult Sports Board will also be in attendance. Currently, over 3,500 participants weekly play in the spring -summer softball program; 1,500 in fall softball, 400 in adult basketball, and around 500 in thb various adult volleyball programs. The age spread for the adult activities is between 18 and 40 years of age. The recommendations of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be distributed to the City Council just prior to Wpdnesday night's meeting. On a motion by Commissioner Melby and a second by Commissioner Wall, it was recommended that the figures in Schedule "G" of the Fees and Charges for Adult Sports Programs (see Schedule attached) be submitted to the City Council for approval, expressing the Commission's concern that they are not getting the full income received from tournaments and concessions credited to the adult programs. Ayes - Commissioners Melby, Wall, Casalegno, Johnson, Meyer Noes - None Motion carried 5 - 0 On a motion by Commissioner Meyer and a second by Commissioner Melby, the Commission recommended that the rental expense for the Pavilion facility be deleted from the proposed costs, since other recreation programs are not being charged for this expense. Supervisor Mike Reese suggested to the Commission that the motion include rental of high school facilities, as the volleyball program is played in a high school gym. Commissioner Meyer amended the above motion to include rental of the high schools. Said motion seconded by Commissioner Melby.
