AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Animal
Control Truck Cab and Chassis

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications
for an animal control truck cab and chassis for the
Police Department and authorize advertising for
bids to be received Wednesday, April 3, 1991.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Funds to purchase an animal control truck cab
and chassis for the Police Department were
approved through a Special Allocation on March
8, 1991, (attached). The unit will replace
the existing truck #05026 and be used by Animal Control Officers to
pick up live and dead animals. The current truck cab and chassis is a
1980 Ford F100 1/2 ton that is inadequate to support the new transport
box. These specifications are for a 3/4 ton cab and chassis that will
support the larger, heavier unit.
FUNDING: Budgeted Fund 12.0
Total Project Estimate $16,500.

Request is made for funds to accomplish the following project which was not included in the
current budget.
Description o` Project Estimated Cost
Animal Control Cab b Chassis
The Police Department has budgeted $18,000 for the purchase of a replacement $ 7,500.00
truck box for the Animal Control Division in the current fiscal year.
In preparing specifications for that unit, two things were discovered:
1) The unit they need must be mounted on a 3/4 ton cab b chassis.
2) The fabrication of the box they require should only cost
$8,000 - $9,000 complete, including installation.
Because the current cab and chassis is a 1980 Ford F100 1/2 ton truck which
is not adequate to support the new animal control box and since it was
scheduled for replacement in 1991-92 anyway, it is requested that $7,500
in additional funding be allocated now for a cab and chassis.
