AGENDA TITLE: Specifications and Advertisement for Bids
for Fire Department Uniforms
MEETING DATE: February 6, 1991

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications
and authorize advertisement for bids for the
purchase of Nomex Station Uniforms for the Fire
Department.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City's 1990-93 Memorandum of Understanding
with Fire personnel (Article 13, paragraph 13.1 -
Uniform Allowance) provides that the City
furnish station personnel with three sets of
fire -retardant uniform pants and shirts on a one-time basis. (The
National Fire Protection Association Standards, Section 1500, requires
station personnel to wear fire -retardant clothing while on duty).
Nomex is a trademark of the DuPont Corporation. Nomex III material is an
enhanced flame -resistant fabric that does not support combustion on its
own, and is used in the fabrication of fire uniforms by a number of
uniform manufacturers. Nomex uniforms are highly regarded and widely
used by fire departments throughout the country.
The bid opening has been set for Tuesday, February 19, 1991.
The estimated cost of this purchase is $22,000.
FUNDING: The MOU provides that funds be made available
from the General Fund Operating Reserve. At the
time recommendation to award is brought to the
City Council, the City Council will be asked to
approve expenditure of Operating Reserve Funds for the purchase.

Safety Panel style, military weave with Freedom stain release.
Fused banded dress collar and cuffs with flame resistant inter-
lining.
Mitered breast pockets with button-down flaps.
Panel to cover front buttons.
Sewn with Nomex thread.
Fully autoclaved for permanent press.
Sling badge holders or reinforcement for badge.
Lodi Fire Department patch sewn on.
To comply with NFPA 1975.
Color: Williamsburg Blue.

Trousers to be of 100% Nomex III Aramid Enhanced NX/2000
6 -oz. plain weave.
Freedom stain release.
Traditionally styled 1/8 top double heeled pockets.
No -roll waistband, topstitched side seam and bartack reinforced
throughout.
Lintrak creases.
Fully autoclaved for permanent press.
Nomex pocketing, waistband, and thread throughout.
To comply with NFPA 1975.
Color: Midnight Navy Blue

BID PRICE TO INCLUDE: Up to six (6) visits to Lodi Fire Department
for measuring and fitting personnel;
Tailoring/alterations for correct fit;
Delivery to Lodi.
