PETERSON City Manager COUNCOMB/TXTA.02J/COUNCOM CC'' January 14, 1991 Lodi City Council 305 West Pine Street Lodi, CA Re: Lodi Senior Citizens Housing Committee Gentlemen: As you know the above Committee has been meeting at the Council's direction for almost one year. We have sought solutions to the problem of providing affordable housing for seniors and have endorsed efforts by others to provide said housing, namely, the proposed Hotel Lodi renovation and conversion. Our frustrations are not unlike those of others seeking such solutions. With the formation of the county -wide ad hoc committee calling itself "Building A Partnership For Affordable Housing" we've reassessed our committees purpose and value. we've concluded the following: 1. The City of Lodi should continue and strengthen its support of the above noted county -wide Committees 2. The Lodi Senior Citizens Commission should direct some of its energy toward advocating inclusion of affordable senior housing in Lodi as a part of any county -wide plan. 3. The best hope for affordable senior housing in Lodi is to join forces with the county -wide Committee. Each individual member of our Committee expressed an interest in helping in whatever capacity needed. Based upon the above, we've resolved that to continue as a committee would create duplication, confusion and not be productive. Therefore, we recommend that the Lodi City Council conclude and disband this Committee and turn it's attention toward providing representation and support to the county -wide Committee noted above. The Committee members also asked me to convey to you our appreciation for the honor and privilege of serving on this Committee. Thank you for your consideration of our recommendations. Sincerely, Lo. -?.i Senior Citizens Housing Committee B / Y Ronald B. Thomas, Chairman cc: All members
