AGENDA TITLE: Plans and Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Fire
Station #3 Emergency Generator
MEETING DATE: July 21, 1993

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications for
the above project and authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project consists of furnishing al; labor, materials,
tools and equipment to complete the removal of the existing
standby generator at Fire Station #3, 2141 South Ham Lane,
including control wiring and other appurtenances, and the
supply and installation of a new standby generator, including automatic changeover
and starting switches, wiring, and incidental and related work necessary for a
complete installation, all as shown on the plans and specifications for the above
project.
The existing emergency standby generator at Fire Station #3, which provides
emergency electrical power, is the original equipment installed when the building
was constructed twenty ye:, -s ago. Its present condition is unstable and it has
failed to start on several occasions. Because of its age, parts are hard to find
and costly. A new a-nerator, including automatic transfer and starting switches
which the present Unit dces not have, is recommended.

*Generator was included as part of the total construction of

In addition to the information in the attached Council Communication, the
new generator will provide 20 kilowatts of power. This larger generator
is necessary to power the additional items which the Fire Department feels
must be supplied with standby power.
If the Council would like any additional information on the existing
generator, we will provide it.
