BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On October 16, 2002, the City Council approved specifications and

Four bids were received, and opened on November 13, 2002:

$18,748.50

'Nexans bid requires a minimum purchase of 45, 000 feet of conductor.
An estimated 12,200 feet of conductor is required for system upgrades in the area encompassed by
Church, Elm, Sacramento and Walnut Streets, and the block bordered by School Street, Walnut,
Sacramento Street and Lodi Avenue. The balance of the bid amount, 7,800 feet, represents a portion of
the projected 2003 requirements. However, with actual 2003 needs still unclear, and storage space at a
premium, staff intends to secure a better 2003 requirements forecast before soliciting bids for additional
quantities of this #2/0 conductor.
