BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Presentation by the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission Regarding Honoring Teens program. August 21, 2002 Community Center Coordinator Presentation. The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in conjunction with the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club, Holiday Inn Express and Central Valley Waste Services is sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The Lodi Youth Commission Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of the Month from the applications submitted to the commission from the general public, various schools, and church groups. Bio for City Council August Teen of the Month August Teen of the Month is Michael Hopps from Lodi High School. He has earned a 4.0 GPA while enrolled in a rigorous college preparatory program. He is well respected by his peers for his personality and work ethic. He was a participant in the Youth Commission's Teen Lead program and is an alternate on School Site Council. As a representative with Kaiser Permanente he has traveled to Mexico and Guatemala. He has an interest in political science, public administration and in law. This year he was selected as one of 12 students statewide to compete for two positions on the California State Board of Education. He is working this summer in a mentoring position with the S.J. County Superior Court. Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission Announcements • Orientation for Teen Lead will be at the Tokay High School Ropes Course on August 19. • Wet n' Wild — was August 3 — at Lodi Lake Beach Front from 4 — lOpm. • The Crush High School Dance in conjunction with Omega Nu — August 30 — at Hutchins Street Square in Kirst Hall from 8:30pm —12 midnight for $6 per person. Proceeds go to the Lodi Youth Commission Scholarship program. • A new event sponsored by the Lodi Youth Commission is The Grape Jam, which will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 1-5pm at the Lodi Grape and Harvest Fair Grounds. There will be seven live bands and a Karaoke Contest for $10 per person at the gate. Local and Regional bands will be featured. We already have contracts with three bands and are looking for four more.
