AGENDA TITLE: Update On The Activities And Accomplishments Of The Greater Lodi Area Youth
Commission And Presentations To The Outgoing Chairperson And The Retiring
Members
MEETING DATE: August 7, 2002

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Update by the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission and
presentations by the Mayor to the outgoing Chairperson and retiring
members.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Megan Hawley, Sweta Patel, and Ashkon Shaahinfar will make a
PowerPoint presentation on the Greater Lodi Area Youth
Commission.
Mayor Pennino will then present a Certificate of Appreciation to Megan Hawley for her service to the
Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission as the commission Chair from 2001-2002.
Further, Mayor Pennino will present Certificates of Appreciation to retiring members Megan Hawley, Sweta
Patel, Yuba Grant, and Ashkon Shaahinfar for their service to the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission.

The Purpose of the Lodi Youth
Commission is to affect positive
growth in young adults through a
variety of activities that will
generate interest and participation
within the greater Lodi area.
Program Goals
• To assist in developing the future leaders and supporters of
the community;
• To provide an opportunity for young adults to have fun, safe,
and social activities;
• To visibly and positively represent the young adults of the
greater Lodi area;
• To inform and involve young adults about the rewarding and
challenging relationships between business and government;
• To inspire and motivate young adults to achieve their
greatest leadership potential and to serve their community;
• To recognize young adults for their strong individual
successes and personal achievements.
History & Overview
■ Established, April 1993.
■ Formed jointly by the LUSD and the City of Lodi.
■ Nine student commissioners.
■ Seven adult advisors.
■ Term for students: Two years.
■ Term for adults: Three years.

• Members are appointed by the Lodi City Mayor.
• The LYC reports to City Council.
• City Liaison was hired in October 1996.
• Schools served by the Lodi Youth Commission:

■ Lodi Academy Christian High School ( Private).
