CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Presentation of the League of California Cities "Helen Putnam Award for
Excellence" for Economic Development; Physical Environment and Land Use;
and Public Safety
MEETING DATE: August 7, 2002

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council, on behalf of the League of California Cities,
present the "Helen Putnam Award for Excellence" for Economic
Development; Physical Environment and Land Use; and Public
Safety.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The League of California Cities annually recognizes programs and
projects that demonstrate leadership, that are responsive to changing
community needs, and that are well-managed. The forum for this
recognition is the "Helen Putnam Award for Excellence." The City of
Lodi and the Lodi Conference and Visitors Bureau (LCVB) submitted applications for awards
consideration. The following programs were submitted:
1. "Lodi Police Department National Night Out" — Public Safety Category. Application prepared by
Jeanie Biskup, Police Volunteer Supervisor, Lodi Police Department
2. "San Joaquin County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation and Open Space Plan" — Physical
Environment and Land Use Category. Application prepared by J.D. Hightower, City Planner,
Community Development Department
3. "Agri -Tourism Program" — Economic Development Category. Application prepared by Nancy
Wilkinson, Executive Director of the LCVB.
All three programs were awarded with "Certificates of Honorable Mention and Appreciation."
