United Way of San Joaquin County is celebrating their most successful campaign ever with a record breaking $4.7 million raised, a 14 percent increase over last year. United Way has changed considerably in recent years. The largest part of our funds, more than $2 million, is distributed to organizations, which our campaign donors have specified. 66% of our funds are designated to more than 1,000 non-profit agencies and churches. Program grants are provided to 35 agencies in the areas of successful children and families, a safety net for people in crisis and services to the ill, elderly and disabled. The four United Way Communities Councils awarded $100,00 in grants to 47 local community agencies. San Joaquin County is one of the first United Ways to no longer charge for pledge loss or administrative costs. We rely on the generosity of civic -minded business firms and individuals that underwrite United Way's cost of furthering our community building mission. Last year the City of Lodi's employee campaign raised more than $23,000. Some of Lodi United Way service Highlights are: One Eighty Teen Center — a collaborative partnership with the First Baptist Church, San Joaquin Valley Youth for Christ, New Hope Community Church and Lodi Unified School District.
