AGENDA TITLE: Adopt resolution authorizing the City Manager to provide a Public Benefits Program Grant in
the amount of $7,100 to fund the Social Security Office Demand-side Management Project
(EUD)
MEETING DATE: February 20, 2002
PREPARED BY: Electric Utility Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to provide a
Public Benefits Program Grant in the amount of $7,100 to fund the Social Security
Office Demand-side Management Project
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The federal government is now completing construction of a new Social
Security Administration & Service Center facility at 2122 West Kettleman
Lane here in Lodi. As part of the facility's mechanical system, approved
energy efficient equipment and related materials have been installed,
including:
➢ six (6) high efficiency RUUD air conditioning units (a seasonal energy efficiency rating of 12.0); and
➢ seven (7) White -Rodgers Comfort -Set III digital programmable thermostats.
As a result of the installed high efficiency air conditioning units, the Social Security Administration will reduce energy
costs by nearly 20 percent on a monthly basis. The programmable thermostats will also allow for more consistent
management of the facility's heating and cooling system (better coordination of system run-times, etc.). The Public
Benefits Program grant in the amount of $7,100 reflects the standard 20 percent match for commercial customer
energy efficiency improvement projects.
The City of Lodi Electric Utility respectfully recommends approval of this funding request as an approved element of
the City of Lodi Public Benefits Program, and designated energy conservation measures for commercial structures.
