HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - March 20, 2002 I-06CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Adopt a resolution awarding the contract for the California Army National Guard Building retro -fit work, 333 North Washington Street ($79,321.91) to Diede Construction and appropriate $91,500 for entire project MEETING DATE: March 20, 2002 PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the contract for the above project to Diede Construction of Woodbridge in the amount of $79,321.91; and appropriate funds in accordance with the recommendation shown below. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On May 16, 2001, the City Council approved a one year agreement for the use of the National Guard Armory building and authorized staff to proceed with repairs on such items as the ceiling, restrooms, floors, and fencing. The intention of the parties at that time was to work toward a five year lease. This project will address restroom upgrades, ceiling renovation, parking lot improvements, and gym floor improvements as required in the lease agreement with the California Army National Guard. Additional work includes new security chain link fence ($4,181.00), asbestos removal ($3,500.00) and drawing and specification ($4,191.94). The total of all improvements for this project is $91,194.85 which is rounded to $91,500. The Boosters of Boys and Girls Sports have taken action to assist in funding improvements in the amount of $8,000. Minutes from their meeting of February 13, 2002, are attached for your information. BOARD COMMENTS AND NON -AGENDA ITEMS: Ron Marks has had open heart surgery. Dick Slawson has lost his entire home to a fire. i—>Tom Alexander motioned, Tim Greenmyer seconded to re -earmark the $8000 for the Armory basketball hoops to the Armory floor repair. Money to come from the general fund. Motion passed. Tim Greenmyer motioned to allocate $5000 for portable backstops at Petersen Park, Zach Leach seconded. Motion passed. VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS A. SPORTS COMMITTEE - Tim Greenmyer There may be a sports committee for a baseball rule change proposal. B. GENERAL SPORTS COMMITTEES: 1. Ripken - Tim Greenmyer No Report. RESOLUTION NO. 2002-62 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR THE CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY BUILDING RETROFIT WORK, 333 NORTH WASHINGTON STREET, AND FURTHER APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THIS PROJECT WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of this City Council sealed bids were received and publicly opened on February 20, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. for the California National Guard Armory Building Retrofit Work, 333 North Washington Street, described in the specifications therefore approved by the City Council on September 19, 2001; and WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof filed with the City Manager as follows: Bidder Engineer's Estimate Location $ Bids 85,630.00 Diede Construction Woodbridge $ 79,321.91 Jepma Construction Sacramento $ 82,733.00 C.M. Builders Stockton $ 99,000.00 WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends award of the contract for the California National Guard Armory Building Retrofit Work, 333 North Washington Street, be made to the low bidder, Diede Construction, of Woodbridge, California, in the amount of $79,321.91. Additional work required includes new security chain link fence ($4,181.00), asbestos removal ($3,500.00), and drawing and specification ($4,191.94), for a total of $91,194.85, which is rounded to $91,500.00.
