"Grants up to $2,500.00, will be awarded at a luncheon on July 12"' of this year," said Cynthia Haynes, City of Lodi's Community Promotions Coordinator and volunteer Chairperson of the Lodi Area Community Council. "This is the fourth year we have offered the mini grant program. Applications must either be submitted by a 501©3 tax-exempt organization or sponsored by one. As well, the groups must provide services in the Lodi area." The maximum amount awarded will be $2,500. Last year twelve organizations received grants from $500 to $2,500. Pastor Steve Jarrett of New Hope Community Church, and council member said, "the process is very rewarding for the volunteers, each member reviews the written applications, assigns a numerical score, then we discuss the merits of each, rank them by a combined score and fund the top programs. It is tough in one respect we always have more requests than we have money to award." Joe Harrington, Lodi Memorial Hospital Administrator and Council member explained, "these funds are from the United way of San Joaquin county's annual fund drive and are in addition to the thousands of dollars received by Lodi agencies through donor designations and the county wide grant process currently in process."
