AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Awarding Contract for Pedestrian Push Buttons and Sign Plates,
Various Locations, to ForTel Traffic, Inc., of Hollister ($19,640); and Appropriate
$21,600 for the Project
MEETING DATE: January 2, 2002

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the contract for the above
project to ForTel Traffic, Inc., of Hollister, in the amount of $19,640; and
appropriate funds in accordance with the recommendation shown below.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project includes furnishing 300 pedestrian push buttons to
meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, and
pedestrian signal educational plates. The old push buttons will be
replaced with the new, larger 2 -inch, "easy to push" buttons using
City forces. Similarly, the sign plates will be replaced with the educational plates informing pedestrians
about the walking man, flashing hand, and steady hand symbols (see attached). For the past three
years, we have installed the ADA push buttons and signs at all new or modified traffic signals.
Plans and specifications for this project were approved on July 19, 2000. This project was delayed while
new buttons were being tested and manufactured. The City received the following five bids for this project:

RESOLUTION NO. 2002-01
A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AWARDING THE
CONTRACT FOR PEDESTRIAN PUSH BUTTONS AND SIGN PLATES,
VARIOUS LOCATIONS, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS TO
COVER THE PROJECT

WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of
this City Council, sealed bids were received and publicly opened on November 28, 2001 at
11:00 a.m. for the Pedestrian Push Buttons and Sign Plates, Various Locations, described in the
specifications therefore approved by the City Council on July 19, 2001; and
WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof
filed with the City Manager as follows:

WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends award of the contract for Pedestrian Push
Buttons and Sign Plates, Various Locations, be made to the lowest responsible bidder, ForTel
Traffic, Inc., of Hollister, California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that the award of the
contract for Pedestrian Push Buttons and Sign Plates, Various Locations, be and the same is
hereby awarded to ForTel Traffic, Inc., of Hollister, California, in the amount of $19,640.25; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds in the amount of $22,000.00 be appropriated
from the Transportation Development Act (TDA) for this project.
