(MSC) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fueling Station, 1331 South Ham Lane, to
Stockton Service Station Equipment Company, Inc., of Stockton ($209,660); and
Appropriate Funds for the Project
MEETING DATE: December 5, 2001
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the construction
contract for the above project to Stockton Service Station Equipment
Company, Inc., of Stockton, in the amount of $209,660; and appropriate
funds in accordance with the recommendation shown below.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project will provide a centrally -located CNG fueling facility, upgrade
existing gasoline and diesel dispensers, install a fuel card system, and
upgrade bus, heavy-duty truck, and light-duty vehicle parking.
The City will see reduced fuel costs for its CNG buses, trucks and cars. The City should expect to pay
about $.75 per gallon for CNG. We will also explore the possibility of providing a public fueling point.
The City Council previously approved $446,800 in expenditures for the design and CNG equipment for
this fueling station. The requested appropriation for construction of $230,600 brings the total cost to
$677,400; the original estimate for the entire project was $660,000. The $17,400 over the original
estimate is due to higher than anticipated construction costs.
Plans and specifications for this project were approved on September 5, 2001. The City received the
following two bids:
Bidder Location Bid
Engineer's Estimate $150,000
Stockton Service Station Equip. Co., Inc. Stockton $209,660
DCM Const. & Services, Inc. Dublin $219,634
FUNDING: Requested Appropriation: Federal Transit Administration $230,600
Project Estimate: $230,600 (includes contingencies)
