Maintenance Agreement with Caltrans for Highway 12; and Approve Plans and
Specifications and Authorize Advertisement for Bids for the Kettleman Lane
Landscaping Project, between Lower Sacramento Road and Tienda Drive and

MEETING DATE: November 21, 2001
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to
execute the Landscape Maintenance Agreement with Caltrans for
Highway 12 landscaping; and approve plans and specifications for the
above project and authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In cooperation with Caltrans, the Public Works Department has
administered two construction projects on Kettleman Lane including
raised medians. The landscaping was not included with either
project due to timing and funding constraints. Recently, Caltrans
approved the landscape plans for both segments, Lower Sacramento Road to Tienda Drive, and
Fairmont Avenue to Hutchins Street. The proposed landscaping is a simple low -maintenance and
drought -tolerant concept. The landscaping scheme will beautify and enhance Kettleman Lane (Highway 12).
The City will administer the project contract, provide construction management, and maintain the
landscaping as specified in the Maintenance Agreement. A copy of the Agreement is on file at the
Public Works Department and will be approved by the City Attorney prior to execution.
The plans and specifications are on file in the Public Works Department.
FUNDING: This project is funded by the Street Fund. A request for appropriation of funds will be
made at contract award. The project estimate includes preliminary engineering,
construction management, and project construction.
