ADAMS, CHIEF OF POLICE RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of the following Arson & Bomb Unit safety equipment using State COPS Grant Funds: "Safeco" EOD 2000 Bomb Suit (includes suit, helmet, visor, battery packs & carry bag) $ 9,844 "P.A.N." disrupter (deluxe kit includes protective case and stand) $ 3,048 "Paramedic" brand jumpsuits (2) (with "Fire Investigator" back plaque) $ 203 "PAN" disrupter ammunition (AVON, high velocity blanks, steel slugs) $ 191 "PAN" disrupter initiator shock tube (one 2500' roll) $ 271 Ballistic face shields (2) $ 621 (Total price includes shipping and taxes) $14,178 BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On March 28, 2001, the Lodi Police Department's Bomb Unit was recognized and certified by the FBI. The Bomb Unit is called to various situations involving "suspicious" packages and items, and various live and improvised explosive devices. The above items represent the latest required safety equipment in order to carry out Bomb Squad missions in a safe and efficient manner. FUNDING: $14,178 from State COPS Grant Funds. Z-4- Jerfi J. Ad s Chief of Po ice cc: City Attorney APPROVED' Duron Flynn -- City RESOLUTION NO. 2001-259 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT FOR THE LODI POLICE ARSON AND BOMB UNIT USING STATE COPS GRANT FUNDS ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ WHEREAS, on March 28, 2001, the Lodi Police Department's Bomb Unit was recognized and certified by the FBI; and WHEREAS, the Bomb Unit is called to various situations involving suspicious packages and items, and various live and improvised explosive devices; and WHEREAS, the safety equipment requested is listed as follows: 1) "Safeco" EOD 2000 bomb suit (includes suit, helmet, $ 9,844.00 visor, battery packs and carry bag) 2) "PAN disrupter (deluxe kit includes protective case $ 3,048.00 and stand) 3) "Paramedic" brand jumpsuits (2) (with "Fire Investigator" $ 203.00 back plaque) 4) "PAN" disrupter ammunition (AVON, high velocity blanks, $ 191.00 steel slugs) 5) "PAN" disrupter initiator shock tube (one 2500' roll) $ 271.00 6) Ballistic face shields (2) $ 621.00 TOTAL $14,178.00 WHEREAS, the requested items represent the latest required safety equipment that will enable the Bomb Unit to carry out missions in a safe and efficient manner. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the purchase of safety equipment for the Lodi Police Arson and Bomb Unit using state COPS grant funds in the amount of $14,178.00.
