Pretz, Fire Chief RECOMMENDED ACTION: Council approve the design and award funding to Natural Rock Formations of Valley springs for Firefighter Memorial at fire station #4. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In 2000, prior to my arrival, permission to design and place a memorial to Lodi firefighters who have died in the line of duty was given by former Fire Chief Scott Kenley. The United Firefighters of Lodi have developed and pursued honoring the fallen firefighters with a rock memorial. The rock is red sandstone and will have the names etched on the face of the rock along with the Lodi Fire Department logo. Because the opening of Fire Station 4 offered the best timing for this project, the committee moved forward choosing the rock and has also received a bid for the cost of the etching. The United Firefighter's of Lodi have been asked to contribute to the memorial, the remainder of the cost will be taken out of the construction contingency.
