Carrier for the Street Division
MEETING DATE: October 3, 2001

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications for the above project, authorize
advertising for bids, and approve the funding source.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Funds to purchase a one -yard two -wheel drive front-end loader/tool carrier for
the Street Division of the Public Works Department had been approved and
budgeted in the 2001/03 Equipment Replacement Fund, and has been
authorized by the Fleet Committee. This vehicle will replace existing Unit 04-023,
a one -yard two -wheel drive front-end loader. Unit 04-023 is a fully depreciated 1986 Case Model 580 SE, with an hour
reading of 1,579 hours. It was purchased for $21,282 in 1986 and has accumulated $31,540 in repair costs. Existing
Unit 04-023 is 15 years old and has accumulated 3,258 hours of down time. The Street Division uses this front-end
loader/tool carrier on a daily basis all year for maintenance. This type of equipment is not available in alternative fuel
CNG engines.
Specifications are on file in the Public Works Department.
FUNDING: The money for this project will be coming from the Equipment Replacement Fund. A request for
appropriation of funds will be made at bid award.
Project Estimate: $58,300
Budgeted: 2001/03 fiscal year
