BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The contract for the rental and leaning of uniforms for Public Works employees in the Equipment Maintenance, Street. and Water/Wastewater divisions, as well as the seat covers and rags used in the equipment maintenance shop. will come to an end very shortly. The City recently went to bid for this service and received four bids. Bids were requested for both polyester/cotton blend shirts and pants and 100% cotton shirts and pants because some of our employees wear cotton. In order to evaluate the proposals. the total amounts shown in this communication were based on supplying polyester/cotton blend shirts and pants to forty-five employees with five changes per week and five employees with four changes per week, as well as the seat covers and rags for the equipment maintenance shop. Supplying the shoulder patches was included as an optional bid item and that price is included with the total. The contract allows changes in the number of employees without additional charges and at rental rates in effect at the time of the agreement. The contract is for a two-year period with an option to renew for an additional year upon mutual agreement between the City and supplier. Funds are budgeted in the 1994/95 operating budget for uniforms, seat covers and rags. Listed below are the four bids calculated for a one-year period based on the polyester/cotton blend uniforms. The low bidder did not change when using 100% cotton uniforms which cost approximately 6% more. However, the ranking of the others did change on the cotton uniforms, with cost increases ranging from 14% to 81%.
