CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: UPGRADE OF POLICE COMPUTER SYSTEM
MEETING DATE: September 7, 1994

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the Police
Department to refinance the lease purchase of
the City's AS400 and upgrade the disk and memory
capacity of this equipment.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In the current budget, the City Council
authorized an upgrade of the computer used
for Computer Aided Dispatch.
Over the past two -plus years several features have been added to CAD
to increase its' functionality. As a result, the response time has
started to slip slightly. Speed is one of our primary concerns, as
time is of the essence in emergency dispatches.
The upgrade will give us a faster processor and will increase our
disk capacity from 800MB to 1976MB and memory from 16MB to 40MB.
These will have a dramatic impact on the CAD response time.
FUNDING: Refinance lease purchase increase AS400 capacity ($15,360)
savings.
The system was purchased on a lease purchase agreement with IBM.
Hardware and software was financed for 5 years through IBM Credit
Corporation. The monthly payment is approximately $4,000. The
upgrade will refinance the remaining balance on the original contract
plus the upgrade with a monthly payment of approximately $2700.
