COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Concrete Underground Utility
Vaults for the Electric Utility Department
MEETING DATE: August 3, 1994

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution
awarding the bid for the purchase of fifteen con-
crete underground vaults, complete with lids and
extension rings, to the sole bidder, Utility Vault
Company of Pleasanton, California, in the amount of $12,574.43.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On July 6, 1994, the City Council approved specifi-
cations and authorized advertisement for bids for
concrete vaults, extension rings, and lids for use
at various locations in the underground electric
distribution system.
Bids were sent to two suppliers, Utility Vault Company, and Associated Con-
crete Products of Livermore. The bid was opened on July 26, 1994. (In
September, 1993, Associated Concrete Products submitted a proposal totaling
more than twice Utility Vault's bid. Comparatively, Utility Vault's current
bid is only 2.2% higher than their bid last year for the same vaults).
These units are scheduled for installation at the following locations:

(One vault will be purchased for the department's inventory).
FUNDING: Funds for this purchase are av,ilable in the Elec-
tric Utility Department's Operating Fund

A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
AWARDING THE BID FOR PURCHASE OF FIFTEEN (15) CONCRETE
UNDERGROUND VAULTS FOR THE ELECTRIC UTILITY DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with
law and the order of this City Council, sealed bids were received and
publicly opened on July 26, 1994 at 11:00 a.m. for the purchase of
fifteen (15) concrete underground vaults, complete with lids and
extension zings, described in the specifications therefor approved by
the City Council on July 6, 1994; and
WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and
a report thereof filed with the City Manager as follows:

Utility Vault Co., Pleasanton $12,574.43
Associated Concrete Products, Livermore, CA No Bid
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that award of the bid for
said underground vaults be made to the sole bidder, Utility Vault Co.,
Pleasanton;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that the
award of bid for fifteen (15) concrete underground vaults, complete
with lids and extension rings be and the same is hereby awarded to
Utility Vault Co., the sole bidder, in the amount of $12,574.43.

by the City Council of the City of Lodi in a regular meeting held
August 3, 1994 by the following vote:
