"National Night Out 1994"
On Tuesday, August 2nd over 8,000 communities will be
celebrating National Night Out by spending the evening
outside partying with neighbors. Last year Lodi ranked 5th
in the nation. This year we are striving to be #1.
The purpose of National Night Out is to encourage
neighbors to know each other and work together to create a
neighborhood that discourages criminal activity. By partying
outside neighbors are building a neighborhood bond and
sending a message of unity.
Block Captains received a registration form to sign up
but don't leave it all up to them! Contact your Block
Captain or phone 333-6863 to find out if your street is
participating. It is not too late for anyone to organize
a potluck, a visit from Lodi Police personnel and enter the
cooking contest. Invitations can be provided.
Neighborhoods can participate in National Night Out
simply by encouraging everyone on their block to turn on
porch lights and spend the evening outside. Groups are
encouraged to have a potluck this year and enter the recipe
of one item from their potluck in the cooking contest.
Recipes will be used to create a National Night Out Cookbook.
To earn the national #1 rating neighbors and police
will have to clearly prove a commitment to working
together. Parties can be as simple or as elaborate as a
group wishes. Over 100 groups partied last year and many
chose to close their streets, BBQ, dance, play Name Bingo
(using neighbors names not numbers), hold bike rodeos and/or
have poster contests. The evening is only limited by
imagination (and laws). Take pictures of your blocks NNO
activities and send a couple pictures to the Crime
Prevention Unit after NNO. Lodi is an award winning city.
Let's prove it by winning #1 nationwide!
