BOX 3006 Lodi, CA 95241-1910 JUNG 21111 1994 Dear Honorable Mayor, Members of Lodi City Council and Mr. Peterson: We, the undersigned, feel that there is a definite problem with: Boosters of Boys/Girls Sports Organization Lodi Parks and Recreation Department Baseball: Babe Ruth League Level (14-15 year) Boys National Division We feel that by the way the present Babe Ruth League, National Division is set up, it is discriminated against. Each player pays their $28.00 registration fee and are NOT equally treated. First of all the Babe Ruth League is divided: American Division - 8 Teams, and National Division - 4 teams. Secondly, the American Division plays their games at Kofu and Zupo Fields, while the National Division plays their games at Sales and Blakely. Thirdly, the rules of batting are different between Divisions. American Division the batting order are the 9 players, the the National Division you through the bench (just like they did in T -Ball). These boys from Minor League up are being educated in baseball; played like the professional way. When you all of sudden in Babe Ruth League, National Division, convert back to T -Ball League, it is demeaning to 14-15 year old players on the National Division. The players on the National Division are looked at as "underdogs" of the Babe Ruth League instead of an EQUAL status under the Babe Ruth League (14-15 year olds). If this Babe Ruth League is a League and only the American Division is prestige enough to play at Kofu and Zupo Fields, does this imply that the National Division players arc not worthy enough to play on a nice field, with an electronic scoreboard, or is it that their cleats are not allowed to touch the turf at one of the nice fields. The American Division has 8 Teams, the National Division has 4 Teams in which they play each other 5 times. Why is the Babe Ruth League so different, why can't it be equally numbered teams and play against each other and have playoffs? The American Division has playoffs, however the National Division only has standings. This is a Baseball League and both Divisions should be EQUAL and one Division SHOULD NOT be discriminated against. It seems that the adult political influence is so great in this Babe Ruth (American Division) League that the boys (14-15 years) are the ones who suffer. ALL the boys who try out are putting their best efforts to play sports for their City of Lodi, WHY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST SOME? These boys are our young adults of today - WHY is the City of Lodi segregating them? They ALL need the opportunity to compete at their levels in a non-discriminatory fashion. We ask you, Honorable Mayor, Members of Lodi City Council and Mr. Peterson to examine these issues/concerns and change these two Divisions of the Babe Ruth League for 14-15 year old boys so that they compete evenly, that the rules are the same and that they play on the same fields in Lodi. That today's young adult males are NOT DISCRIMINATED and/or SEGREGATED against, that the boys are able to build their self-esteem, not have it destroyed, and that their values need to come first. Thank you. I have read the lett to the Honorable Mayor, Member the Lodi City Council and City Manager: Mr. Tom Peterson and I feel strongly in support of these issues presented regarding the Babe Ruth League Level - National Division (14-15 year) Boys.
