HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 6, 1994 (78)Q OR CITY OF LODE o t COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Lodi Parks and Recreation Catalog of Dreams and Gift Program MEETING DATE: April 6. 1994 PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council review the Catalog of Dreams and Gifts and give the approval to proceed with the concept, and begin getting the information out to the public. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The concept is to go a step further than we are currently, we have been very successful in getting service clubs, organizations, and, in some instances, individuals or families involved with projects or gifts to the City's Parks and Recreation Department. One thing that has been requested time and time again, is a publication with ideas for projects and/or needs of the department. We feel the material before you will address those needs and requests. It will, at the least, give people enough information to encourage them to call our office and let us take it from there. It is also possible that we could be included in a will or trust, naming us as beneficiary to develop a park area, money for equipment or supplies, and/or dollars to provide maintenance for a facility. The sky is the limit - anything could result from this Dreams and Ideas Catalog. I will be most happy to answer questions on the program. And, yes, the Commission is 100% behind it. FUNDING: I would like to do the Catalog professionally, that would be accomplished by requesting general fund dollarE to have it printed or to try and sell advertising to get the booklet published. Cost - $150 to $350. 1 didn't run this by a printer for costs at this time, we can also have some of the work done in-house, with possibly only the cover and inside map done with multiple colors, and having the booklets stapled together by staff. But, I do feel we want this to look a ro ssi nal s poss . t) Ron Williamson Parks and Recreation Director RW/sh Attachment cc: City Attorney APPROVED t 1 i . THOMAS A. PETERSON rxyciso vacs, City Manager cc -1 CCO436A COM Mwcn 18 1994 B Lodi ^ Parks. & Recreation CATALOG of DREAMS & IDEAS Donation Guide Benefiting the City of Lodi c`a:►?AP Parke & Recreation Department The City of Lodi Par"nd Recreation Departmep*,,tas created this catalog to help with dreams and u ' ..As that are needed for expanding recreational opportunities and park facilities that can not be obtained through annual budgeting. This is an opportunity for the public to designate where they would like their donated money to be spent. Donated items that require installation, can be installed by `► groups or organizations, but can also be done by City employees with the exception of large picnic shelters, major renovation, or improvement projects, which must be done by contract or a contractor. The catalog has been put in a monetary sequence ranging from $10.00 donations to $30,000 PLUS donations. Major gifts and trusts can be made to the Department/City. They can go into a trust fund or account to be directed to a special event, special project and/or improvement, or to a designated Park. If there are no catalog items listed that fit your needs or desires, please contact the Parks and Recreation Director, Ron Williamson, at (209) 333-6742, extension 893, with your ideas. The Parks and Recreation Department will also accept cash donations with the Parks and Recreation Commission, if requested, to determine the best use of the funds. Donations above $1,000 will receive a plaque from the Parks and Recreation Commission, recognizing the donor's outstanding contribution to the Community. Major gifts and trusts will also be accepted with the idea of recognizing individuals, groupvorganizations, and businesses. 2 Thank -You PARKS AND RECREATION STAFF Ron Williamson- Parks & Recreation Director Scott Fssin- Parks Superintendent Tim McGeorge- Parks Supervisor Frank Pepper- Parks Supervisor Tom Alexander- Recreation Supervisor Mike Reese- Recreation Supervisor Lisa Rudloff- Recreation Supervisor Layne Van Noy- Recreation Supervisor A.
