April 20, 1994
COMMENTS REGARDING EAST SIDE
Tony Canton, 1029 South Church Street, Lodi, congratulated the east side citizens on
their success with its lawsuit against the property owner at 220 West Pine Street.
Further, Mr. Canton responded to Mr. Price's comments regarding his statement in the
Lodi News Sentinel. He still feels the Council and the City should do more for the east
side. The Community Improvement Officer needs assistance because he cannot
possibly accomplish all that needs to be done in 20 hours a week and staff needs to
follow up on complaints from citizens and ask for permission to enter properties to
investigate. Mr. Schroeder commented that the City must have authorization from a
property owner to enter and investigate. Also the Health Department has not been
helping in this situation due to lack of staff.

RE: Response to Complaints
IENNIFURAt FIRKIN
City Clerk
B08 MCNATT
City Attorney
On a number of occasions during the past year, citizens complaints
which have been referred by various City of Lodi departments to your
office have been sent back to the City. These complaints are
concerning environmental health matters, which need the attention of
persons with training in that field. The City has no one on staff with
this type of background.
The Lodi City Council is well aware of the budgetary restraints which
have had and continue to have an impact on all public agencies in
California. However, we believe there are m..tters reported to our
various City agencies which are environmental health complaints. Only
your personnel possess the training required in solving these
complaints.
Please inform us of the proper method to report environmental health
complaints to your department so that these matters will not be sent
back to the City.
Sincerely,
k6.
