AGENDATITLE: Agreement to accept a Department of Substances Control
grant to purchase a hazardous materials emergency
response vehicle.
MEETING DATE: May 04. 1994
PREPARED BY: Frank Ortiz. fire battalion chief

RE A4MENDEDACTICN: City Council authorize the City Manager to sign the
agreement for accepting the Department of Toxic
Substances Control grant to purchase a hazardous
materials emergency response vehicle.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Nodi applied for a grant to purchase a hazardous
materials emergency response vehicle through funds
provided in the Railroad Accident Prevention and Response
Fund as allowed for in State Public Utilities Code. Section
7714 in January 1993. This fund was established to
assist local agencies by providing equipment for emergency
hazardous materials responses. Preference for these funds
is given to agencies with areas of higher risks due to
potential surface and rail transportation Incidents. In
1993.94 there was approximately $600.000.00
available to divide among the six State Office of Emergency
Services mutual aid regions. The City of Lodi received a
grant for the purchase of a hazardous materials emergency
response vehicle not to exceed $35.000.00. The grant to
Lodi was due largely in part to the Cities' participation in
the San Joaquin County joint hazardous materials response
team. The participation on this Team was approved by City
Council in November 1991. The approval of this action
will greatly enhance the effectiveness of the fire
department in mitigating hazardous materials emergencies.
