CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Discussion regarding disposal of surplus vehicles
MEETING DATE: August 15, 2001

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council review the City's Fleet Policies and
Procedures regarding disposal of surplus vehicles, and discuss
other possible options for vehicle disposal.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City's Fleet Policies and Procedures, which were adopted by
the City Council in 1997, state that "Vehicles having a value shall
be sold at auction, by sealed bid, or through trade-in toward the
purchase of the replacement vehicle."
At the request of Council member Pennino, staff is bringing this topic back to Council for discussion and
direction. Council member Pennino recommended the possibility of selling the vehicles through used
car dealers. Currently there are twenty-two (22) used car dealers licensed in the City of Lodi.
Purchasing Officer Joel Harris and Fleet and Facilities Manager Dennis Callahan will be present to
provide information and to answer questions.
