HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - August 15, 2001 D-03dAGENDA TITLE: Presentation of the Community Improvement Award
MEETING DATE: August 15, 2001
PREPARED BY: Community Development Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the Mayor present to Pastor Glenn Foo Sum, on behalf of
Century Assembly Church, the Community Improvement Award to
recognize their efforts and accomplishments in their Adopt -A -Block
project in the northern portion of Lodi's Eastside residential
neighborhood.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On April 28, 2001, Century Assembly initiated the pilot program of
Adopt -A -Block, in which they assembled a legion of volunteers
from their congregation and swept through a residential
neighborhood in northeast Lodi and helped residents clean up and
beautify their properties. In just three hours time, those volunteers and residents amassed a total of 24
tons of junk and debris which was picked up and disposed of by Central Valley Waste.
Those volunteers returned every other weekend from that inaugural date and helped residents clean up
debris, fix, replace and paint fences, weed and cut yards and flowerbeds, and make small repairs. The
Adopt -A- Block Program was wrapped up on July 21 st with a celebration that was held at Hale Park.
Free food, refreshments, entertainment and games were provided that day to those who live in the
neighborhood.
For their dedication and their incredible accomplishments, the City of Lodi and the Eastside
Improvement Committee wishes to recognize Century Assembly with the Community Improvement
Award.
