AGENDA TITLE: Presentation by the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission
Regarding Honoring Teens program.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in conjunction with the
Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club, Holiday Inn Express and Central Valley Waste Services is
sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The Lodi Youth Commission
Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of the Month from the
applications submitted to the commission from the general public, various schools, and
church groups. This month's Teen of the Month is Melissa Harnack from Jim Elliot
Christian High School.

Aust Teen of the Month
Melissa Harnack is a junior at Jim Elliot Christian High School. Melissa is one of the
most outstanding and courageous students. A cancer patient, Melissa goes to Stanford
once a month for chemo treatments. Despite her cancer, Melissa continues as a 4.0 GPA
student plus she leads a community service group, is in the Interact Club, and meets with
children at the Lodi House. Melissa organizes her group of friends in the Interact Club to
visit children for 2-3 hours once a month. She will participate in t he Special Olympics
Track and Field Day as a volunteer and has participated in the American Cancer Society
Relay For Life.
